At the end of regular season, Juan Soto, a professional baseball player, declined a 15-year, $440 million contract.
That amount of money would be the most ever paid in the sport. But even though this is the most money ever offered in a contract, it would be the twentieth-best salary in the league.
Soto would be making $29 million a year. Mike Trout, the highest-paid player only makes $36 million, and he’s arguably one of the best baseball players to ever live. After Soto declined the offer, the Nationals might be looking to trade him sometime in the next month.
When Soto got the word that his refusal of the offer became public, he was not happy.
“I keep everything quiet and try to keep it just to me,” he said.
The manager of the Nationals, Dave Martinez, says that players have to expect these kinds of things to happen and endure them.
Juan Soto is the star player of the team. He is going to the Home Run Derby, and will be the only National to play in the All-Star game. Not only is he the best ,but he is the youngest. As a matter of fact, he is the youngest player in MLB history to appear in a major league game.
Not only was Soto the star, he was also the most popular. A veteran teammate asked a clubhouse attendant where he could find more Juan Soto shirts for his kids. Later, fans stopped by to collect their own Star Wars-themed bobblehead of Soto.
“I mean, at the end of the day, you’re going to get what you deserve. We all know that,” said Martinez.
