A Tik-Tok star by the name of Remi Bader was fat-shamed by a ranch worker. She claims that they “laughed” at her for weighing over 240 pounds. She shares her story and found out that this way of treating people is sadly seen in 40% of adults who are looking for treatment. This weight-based teasing worsens the problems that they face.
Obesity is defined as having a body mass index of 30 or higher. This is very common in the United States as 41.9% of adult Americans are obese. These people with weight problems do not need to be reminded of that constantly. While fat-shaming is weight-based discrimination, it can also cause low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, a decrease in exercise, and cause them to gain more weight. This slows down their treatment of choice making it harder on themselves.
