Have you heard of netball? Well, it is a sport played by two teams of seven players in a rectangular court with raised goal rings at each end. The goal is to shoot the ball into the ring attached to a 10 feet post. Well, recently in the Netball World Cup 2023, England has beaten New Zealand. This means that they will be moving on into the final against Australia.
After every quarter the match was still level, but near the end England surprisingly won with 46-40. Australia, who lost to England in the group stage, beat Jamaica 57-54. There has never been a World Cup final without the 11 time world champions, Australia, meaning it will be a rough and intense game. “Winners never quit, and quitters never win” is a famous netball quote because it shows the extreme reality of netball and its challenges.
While England had a little weak shooting, they had a solid defense against New Zealand. England has to now compete for their biggest title since the 2018 Commonwealth Games, when they beat Australia to win gold. They may be one of the best games because both sides are eager for the win, as it would show the real champions. According to the England team, they stated, “We’ve had so much criticism over the last year [after no medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games].”
Both are super eager to win as they both have so much to win for. But, who do you think will win? Stay tuned in the Final Games. If you are interested in watching the finals, it takes place at 17:00 BST and will be live on BBC Two. Let’s get netballing.
