Julia Scully died on July 18 at her home in Manhattan at the age of 94. She was the editor of Modern Photography magazine for 20 years. The reason for her death has not been announced.
She wrote a memoir about her depressing childhood, which involved putting her and her sister in an orphanage before moving into a roadhouse around Alaska.
Jana Martin, the daughter of Ms. Scully’s companion, Harold Martin, has already confirmed her death.
Ms. Scully had a rough childhood, and in her memoir, she wrote about how she was serving whiskey for gold miners at the young age of 11 and exploring the tundra and observing the reindeer.
