On July 31st, 17-year-old Cyclist Magnus White was hit by a car and, after being sent to the hospital, was pronounced dead. The accident happened on Colorado Highway 119 in Boulder, Colorado. When he was hit, White was training for the upcoming Junior Men’s Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Championships.

White was hit by a young adult driving a Toyota Matrix. He was accidentally struck from behind before the car crashed into a fence. However, the car driver was unharmed. Authorities believe that no usage of drugs, alcohol, or speeding is not what caused the accident. At the time of the accident, Magnus was preparing to go to Scotland for an upcoming race.

White’s cycling path started when he was only 2, and he started competing when he was eight. He was also a skier and a student who aspired to attend business school one day.

His family and friends have started a fundraiser in memory of Magnus. Cristine Lipson is a friend of Magnus and a fundraiser organizer.

“Magnus was taken from us while doing what he loved most, riding his bike,” Lipson wrote.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the tragic loss of our beloved son, Magnus White,” his parents, Michael and Jill White, said. “Magnus was dedicated to his family and friends and loved to surround them with laughter. He had an amazing smile that always lit up the room, bringing joy to those around him.”

White’s death also impacted the USA team. In a statement, they said, “We offer our heartfelt condolences to the White family, his teammates, friends, and the Boulder community during this incredibly difficult time, we ride for Magnus.”

White won many awards over the past 2 years of racing for the US team.
