Katie Ledecky surpassed Michael Phelps in the amount of Gold Medals won and is a world record holder in 800 meter freestyle and 1500 meter free.
Her winning time for this championship was 8 minute and 8.87 seconds which was the seventh fastest she ever swam. However she said that it wasn’t good enough for her favorite event.’ “I’m just always trying to think of new ways to improve. I mean I’ve already got everything turning in my head right now. I kind of wanted to be better than I was tonight,” she said, twirling her right hand beside her right ear, trying to stir up ideas.” (AssociatedPress) She was also the first to win 6 gold medals for the same event at the world championships. It is also her 16th individual title at the championships. This shows how determined Katie Ledecky is as she is always pushing herself to complete her goal. This is also important in the swimming world as she still remains the world record holder in her times and has more gold medals than the famous and retired Michael Phelps.
The Americans have the most medals in the championship with 30 while the Australians are second with 20 and China in third with 13. Kaylee Mckeown was able to win the 50 meter, 100 meter, and 200 meter backstroke.”It all made up for her disqualification earlier in the 200 IM. “You can’t change the rules,” she said. “I got ruled out. It’s just the cards I was dealt with and I couldn’t do much more than that. So I just had to carry myself the best I could and channel all my anger and turn a huge negative into a positive.” (AssociatedPress) These are some of the many swimmers who got good times at the championships.
