On July 29, 2023, 17 year old top American cyclist Magnus White died in Boulder, Colorado after being hit by a car.

Magnus White was training for the Junior Men’s Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Championships held in Glasgow, Scotland.

As a member of the USA Cycling Junior Men’s National team, White has won many competitions. White won the 2021 Junior 17-18 Cyclocross National Championship, which he said was a “Pivotal Moment” that offered him the opportunity to be able to race in Europe. He also went on to compete in the USA Cycling team for a full season closing the year with the 2022 UCI Cyclocross World Championship in Arkansas. White represented the US at another Cyclocross World Championship in 2023 held at Hoogerheide. This Summer, he has also earned a spot on the Mountain Bike World Championship team! What’s even more fascinating is that White has competed in 147 competitions throughout his racing career posted by Magnus White on his site.

Magnus White first started racing when he was 8. However, he has had the passion for biking since 2! White wasn’t just a good biker, but he was also a good skier and a student who persevered in his academics.

A close friend and teammate of Magnus White, Lipson wrote, “He began cycling when he was eight and quickly rose through the cycling ranks. Magnus’s journey in cycling was driven by a tireless work ethic and a deep desire to achieve his personal best. He was proud to represent his community and country around the world.”

Magnus White was riding on the side of a highway in Boulder, Colorado on Saturday afternoon when a 23-year-old woman driving a Toyota Matrix accidentally hit White from behind. According to the State Patrol, no drugs, alcohol or speeding was a factor in the crash. The driver was not injured.

“His passion for cycling was evident through his racing and camaraderie with his teammates and local community.” USA Cycling said on Sunday. “We will ride for Magnus.”
