Funny Cide seemed to be a normal horse. It was bred in the state of New York and no horse in New York had ever won a big race. That changed in 2003 when Funny Cide entered the Kentucky Derby. The horse ran fast and strong.
This journey all started when a group of high school friends in New York decided to buy a horse. They were from a town in northern New York called Sacketts. ‘”We were just sitting around having a couple cocktails as we were often doing, and the idea came up to buy a horse,” said Jon Constance, the village’s former mayor and another of Funny Cide’s co-owners. “From that day forward, our life has changed.” (NPR) The horse itself was small in stature and feisty. During the race, Funny Cide won against all odds. One of the co-owners.
Santos, from Chile, stated that he came here to reach his dream and he did it with Funny Cide.
This appeared to be a fluke and a feel-good story for the group of high school friends. However, 2 weeks later at the Preakness Stakes, Funny Cide won again by 10 lengths. Funny Cide was unable to get the triple crown as a better horse called Empire Maker beat Funny Cide at the Belmont Stakes. But It was a good run and Funny Cide made 3.5 million dollars for the owners. In 2007, Funny Cide went into retirement and lived 15 years of comfort until his death.
This is one of many stories that shows that you can achieve great things with very little to start with.
Just a few quick fixes here and you’ll be ready to publish. Maybe revise the last line (i.e. add how much the horse was, revise “very little” to “just an idea”) or cut.
