By: Daniel Xia

Meet Funny Cide, a chestnut thoroughbred horse who was relatively unknown when he entered the Kentucky Derby in 2003. Despite being considered a longshot with 12:1 odds, Funny Cide defied expectations and won the race. His victory was a life-changing moment for his owners, a group of high school friends who had taken up horse-racing as a hobby in a small town called Sacketts Harbor, New York.

In 2003, Funny Cide pulled off a stunning move as he won the Kentucky Derby. Against all expectations, the small and determined chestnut surged ahead of all the other competitors, surprising all the spectators and his co-owners.

Following the Kentucky Derby win, Funny continued to impress everyone by winning the Preakness Stakes, but he barely missed the Triple Crown title when he finished second in the Belmont stakes. His journey was an epic run, and he retired in 2007 after accumulating 3.5 million dollars for his owners.

After Funny Cide retired, his co-owners visited him often at a serene farm in Kentucky. They loved remembering their racing days together and treasured their time with the spirited champion. Funny Cide had won many hearts and represented hope and determination to them. Their visits were a way to honor his enduring spirit and the special bond they shared.

In short, Funny Cide’s amazing journey from an unknown horse to a champion shows the importance of never giving up and embracing challenges. He inspired many and left a lasting impact, becoming a true inspiration in horse racing and beyond.
