Auctioneers in the US couldn’t sell an original white gown worn by Carrie Fisher from her role Princess Leia in the first Star Wars film, A New Hope (1977).The Propstore in Los Angeles is a company which sells film and TV props and costumes. The Propstore had been hoping the iconic garment would fetch $1.96 million at Wednesday’s auction.

Those who’ve ever dreamt of dressing like an authentic Star Wars princess might find they have a little “New Hope”: A gown worn by Princess Leia (played by the late actress Carrie Fisher) in the first film of the blockbuster space saga is up for sale at this week’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction. But it comes with no small price tag.

“This historically significant piece is the only Princess Leia costume known to still exist from the original film,” Prop store noted in its auction lot description. The costume had to be cleaned with hands to remove accumulated dust while in storage. The prop store said that the dress was restored with archival precision and that a special type of gauze was used on tiny holes.

Star Wars is one of the world’s biggest franchises and films of the series are one of the first blockbuster movies in the 1970s. hauling in billions of dollars from audiences. However, its stellar status was not enough to get any of the buyers to punters into paying the money for the gown.
