Joe Davis replaces Joe Buck at All-Star Games

By: Edward Zeng

Joe Davis joined the Dodger’s broadcast team in 2015 and took over the lead in 2017, when Vin Scully, the original lead, retired. Now, Davis is replacing Joe Buck as the lead play-by-play announcer at Fox, starting with announcing for the 2022 All-Star Game.

Since 2015, Davis has been climbing up the ranks as a sportscaster. He is now at the same level as Buck, who has called the World Series 24 times and the All-Star Game 20 times. Buck has been preparing for a job as a sportscaster his entire life, following in the footsteps of his dad, Jack Buck, who was also a sportscaster. Davis, however, is the son of a football coach, and played quarterback through college. Even as he played football, he anticipated that his entire life wouldn’t be in the field, though.

Davis was inspired by Gary Thorne in 1996, who called the Stanley Cup Finals. 1996 was also the first year Buck would call for the World Series. Now, Davis has replaced Buck and has turned from a child with a passion into one of the world’s most recognized voices for baseball.

In the words of John Smoltz, Fox’s lead baseball analyst, “I don’t think there will ever be another scenario where you replace someone like Vin Scully, and then you replace someone like Joe Buck.”
