Nick Kyrgios is Fighting at Wimbledon

By: Alison Chen

Currently, Wimbledon is having some problems with Nick Kyrgios, an Australian tennis player.

After Kyrgios broke the strict white dress code by wearing a black hat to the on-court interview, viewers think he was trying to “send a message.”

Kyrgios is full of surprises on the court. He can unleash a bomb on his opponent, performing all kinds of trick shots. After his win over Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7), the fourth seed from Greece, both players had some things to say about each other.

During the match, Tsitsipas angrily hit a ball into the crowd, almost hitting a spectator.

The umpire did not default him, which upset Kyrgios, who claimed that the umpire would have

defaulted him if he had done the same thing. This complaining frustrated Tsitsipas, who told the umpire that “only one person was interested in playing tennis,”, the other one was trying to turn the match into a circus.

Once the match continued, Tsitsipas took matters into his own hands, and started to aim

at Kyrgios’ body, nailing him a couple of times. Kyrgios still managed to pull through and win in an insane tiebreaker.

After the match, there was a heated debate about who was more liked, and which man was in

the wrong. In an interview, Tsitsipas made it clear he thought Kyrgios’ intention was to turn the match into a circus, not to play good tennis. Tsitsipas described Kyrgios as a bully, and then stated that he dislikes bullies, and people that put others down. Tsitsipas said that he regrets hitting the ball into the crowd of spectators but does not take back his words about Kyrgios.

Tsitsipas justified his actions by telling people that “it was normal for him to act out when others are not respecting him.”

Kyrgios responded to Tsitsipas in an interview later. He said that Tsitsipas was the one hitting

balls at him and the one that hit the ball into the crowd. Then, Kyrgios stated that he was well liked off court, while the Greek player was disliked. Kyrgios said, “I did not take the court to make a friend, to compliment my opponents on their play, and I have no idea what I had done to make Tsitsipas so upset that he barely shook my hand at the end of the match.”

This rivalry between Kyrgios and Tsitsipas can be looked at from both sides of the argument.. It really depends on what the public thinks.
