On June 18, 2022. 15 of some of the most famous and popular Mexican fighters decided to hold a record-breaking boxing class. The class contained a total of 14,299 students, all gathered in Mexico City’s Zocalo, the main square.

The teachers included Mariana “Barby” Juarez, Erik Morales, Andy Ruiz Jr., Oscar Valdez, Jackie Nava, Humberto Gonzalez, Miguel Berchelt, Jose Cuevas, Alfonso Zamora, Jose Luis Bueno, Jose Antonio Aguirre, Ganigan Lopez, Adrian Hernandez, Ana Maria Torres, Alan David Picasso, and Mariana Juarez. The class was assembled by the Sports Institute of Mexico City.

This memorable (and quite large) event set the Guinness World Record for biggest boxing class in the world with 14,299 thousand people attending. The former record was held by Moscow, Russia, with only 3,250 participants.

Students of the boxing class wore red, white, and green shirts to form the Mexican flag in the Zocalo. These shirts were provided by Javier Hidalgo Ponce who is the director of the Sports Institute just weeks before the event.

Ponce said on June 3rd, “It will be a great multicolored party because together we will form the Mexican flag with these beautiful shirts that each and every one of the participants in the Massive Boxing Class will have.”

The boxing class lasted for a full 30 minutes, with a tiny break of 20 seconds for hydration.
