On June 18th, fifteen Mexican fighters gathered to set a world record for the largest boxing class ever at the Zocalo, the main square in Mexico City.
Erik “El Terrible” Morales, Andy Ruiz Jr., Oscar Valdez, Jackie Nava, Humberto “Chiquita” González, Miguel Berchelt, Jose “Pipino” Cuevas, Alfonso Zamora, Jose Luis Bueno, Jose Antonio “Jaguar” Aguirre, Ganigan Lopez, Adrian “Confesor” Hernandez, Mariana Juarez, Ana Maria Torres, and Alan David Picasso were the instructors in the boxing class organized by the Sports Institute of Mexico City. These professional boxers are all known for their stellar performances in the boxing ring.
The event set a new Guinness World Record for the largest boxing class in the world with 14,299 attendees. The previous record was held by Moscow, Russia with 3,250 participants in Red Square.
Together, the participants wore t-shirts with green, white, and red to cover the square in the colors of the Mexican flag colors. The event doubled as a new world record and a way to show off Mexican pride.
