Born on May 5th, 1927, Pat Carroll was an American actress and comedian best known for being the voice actress for Ursula from “The Little Mermaid.” Not only did she maintain a long-acting career, but she also appeared in many TV shows.

Pat Caroll died on July 30, 2022, from pneumonia at her home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. After starting her acting career in 1947, she featured in her first movie “Hometown Girl” acting as Lorelei Crawford in 1948. In 1952, she made her television debut on “The Red Buttons Show.” In 1956, she won her first Emmy Award.

“Ms. Carroll broke into television as a sketch comedian in the 1950s and later became a fixture on ‘Password,” “I’ve Got a Secret,” and other game shows,” Jo Craven McGinty writing for NY Times, remarked, “She was seen frequently on sitcoms like ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show and dramas like ‘Police Woman’ — and years later heard in animation productions like Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid,’ as the voice of Ursula, the sea witch.”

For many of her film, voice and acting jobs, she remained mostly unseen and underappreciated. She was the voice actor for many cartoon actors, most notably as the Sea Witch in “The Little Mermaid.” Pat Caroll had said that it was one of the roles she was most proud to have accomplished.

Carroll played an influential role in many cartoon movies, even though she wasn’t as recognized for her talents. She had once said that she most wanted to be associated with Ursula, who she felt was a wonderful and fascinating character.
