YouTube Influencer Releases Candle with a “Racist Name”

By: Audrey Xie

Before the “Racist” Candle was released, Jackie Aina did a collaboration with “Too Faced”, a makeup brand, and made darker shades of foundation available for those who do not have light skin. For this act, she was praised and supported, but not after what she released on Thursday.

Aina, who is 35 years old, and a beauty influencer on YouTube, later made a candle named “Sòro Sókè”. Sòro Sókè translates to “Speak Louder” in English. The phrase is used in police brutality protests mainly in Nigeria.

She let out four new candles for her business, which one was named “Sòro Sókè”. The candle got so much hate from the internet and even some of her loyalist subscribers.

A lot of Nigerian You-Tube users saw videos about the product, or found the product she just released on her website and were offended. They called Aina “too slow to use her platform to boost the movement”.

After getting so many negative comments about the name of the candle, it got removed from the FORVR Mood’s website and is not selling to anyone anymore. However, a video of the product being boosted should still be available to watch.
