The Pigs Miracle

By: Hanna Qian

When someone or something is dead, the truth is it’s usually the opposite of alive. It’s very unusual for something to be dead and then for it to come back to life later. The pigs that were dead for an hour came back to life by scientist who made their hearts beat again.

The group of scientists who worked on saving the pigs definitely tried many solutions that didn’t work right. The one way they tried was by pumping synthetic fluids through to their dead bodies, and after the scientists found that their hearts began to pump faintly. According to The Washington Post, “Blood circulation was restored, and some cellular functions were revived in vital organs such as the heart and liver.” The fluids that went through the pigs’ body shocked the pigs and then they started to finally breathe.

Yale University helped research about those pigs using the OrganEx system which is a thing to supply blood and a flexible rigor mortis. While using that system, they must have learned a lot. According to The Washington Post, “But they also add to the thorny ethical issues surrounding the definition of death, as the distinction between the dead and the living becomes increasingly blurred.” The system sure helped the researchers a ton to make sure those pigs were healthy and ready to go again.

Bringing the pigs back to like after an hour of being dead is a miracle.
