Brad Pitt: The Humorous Actor

By: Samuel Lin

Brad Pitt is one of the most renowned and funny actors of the 21st century. His films have grossed over five billion dollars. Besides his looks, his unique, funny acting is what makes him so successful.

Pitt was born on December 18, 1963, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. During his childhood, his family moved to Missouri, and Pitt later attended the University of Missouri. There, he took classes on journalism and found his love for acting. He moved to Los Angeles, where there were more acting-related opportunities, and took acting lessons.

Soon, he began appearing in movies. One of his first major roles was in the film Thelma & Louise (1991), in which he played the supporting character J.D. In 1994, he and Tom Cruise starred in the movie Interview with the Vampire, based on the Anne Rice book of the same name. In the movie, Pitt plays Louis de Pointe du Lac, a mortal man who turns into a vampire.

In 1995, Pitt played the supporting character Jeffrey Goines in the science fiction movie 12 Monkeys. His performance won him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Pitt also played the role of Samuel Bass, an abolitionist, in the movie 12 Years a Slave (2013), based on the memoir written by slave Solomon Northup.

In the movie World War Z (2013), Pitt plays the protagonist, Gerry Lane, who tries to stop a zombie pandemic. The film made around $540 million, making it one of his highest-grossing movies.

In another movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), Pitt plays the role of Cliff Booth, a World War II veteran and the best friend of the main protagonist.

Pitt’s latest movie is the action-packed Bullet Train, which was released on August 5. Pitt plays an assassin named Ladybug, who fights other assassins (played by Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Henry, and others) on a bullet train.

“Brad did 95 percent of his physical stunts — the fighting. He’s like a natural-born athlete. He really got in there,” said Greg Rementer, the stunt coordinator who helped Pitt during the filming Bullet Train.

“Brad leading pushed everyone to excel,” he continued. “It was a great marriage of trust and safety.”
