New Temperatures Are Breaking Records in the Northeast

By: Victoria Wong

Many people in the Northeast have been receiving record high temperatures; the temperatures have risen into the three digits. Newark hit 101 degrees on Sunday, beating the record high of 99 in 2010. Boston also got a high of 100 degrees, surpassing the high of 98 degrees in 1933.

Now the heat is really getting to people because there are heat-related deaths being reported. In New York there was a heat-related death on Saturday. Many already hot places such as Arizona, Texas, New York, South Dakota, and Missouri are trying to beat the heat after suspected deaths from the weather. There are now cooling stations in New York and people are trying to cool off on beaches, in libraries, and indoors.

Texas has reported a heat-related death of a 66-year old. This is the first death because of the scorching weather in US history. Not long after that, Kansas City started investigating their own deaths, trying to find out if they were heat-related or not. And in Arizona there have been said to have twenty-five deaths from July 17 and Saturday related to the heat.

Many people in the U.S. are worried about this heat crisis but, the National Weather Service recommends that people stay out of the sun, drink a lot of water, stay in cool rooms, and check people you know to see if they need any help. You can also go to a pool to cool off too.
