Smiling happily on the beach, Prince George turns 9

Last Friday, Prince George of Cambridge turned nine. Traditionally, the birthdays of the children of Catherine and William, the parents of George, are noted by posting a picture online. Grinning on a private beach, his mom, the Duchess of Cambridge, snapped a picture of him and posted it online.

Born on July 22, 2013, George has become a celebrity ever since he was born in St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. He was joined by two other siblings, Princess Charlotte and Louis, in 2015 and 2018 respectively.

George Alexander Louis, known more commonly as Prince George, is third in the line for the throne of Britain.

The last time he was publicly seen was at the Championships of Wimbledon, where he watched Novak Djokovic beat Nick Kyrgios in the men’s final. These young royals aren’t usually seen in public, but ever since Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, George and his siblings have been seen at events more often.

However, Prince George’s ninth birthday isn’t the biggest recent news coming from the royal family. George’s late grandmother, Princess Diana, and their nanny made the news last Friday.

Diana suffered from a miserable marriage after BBC’s Martin Bashir falsely claimed George’s nanny, Alexandra Pettifer, for having an affair with Diana’s husband, Prince Charles and having an abortion.

BBC’s director general Tim Davie owed the royal family, especially Princess Diana, an apology. Davie tweeted, “I would like to take this opportunity to apologize publicly to her [Pettifer], to The Prince of Wales, and to the Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex, for the way in which Princess Diana was deceived and the subsequent impact on all their lives.” Bashir has since left BBC.
