WNBA star Brittney Griner hasn’t been seen since she was arrested a week before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Her new pictures released on Monday before her trial on drug charges.
On Monday, some new photographs along with a video of Ms. Griner were released to the public. Ms. Griner looked worried in the pictures. She is in a light-colored T-shirt with eyeglasses on. She is much taller than the guards. The wrists of her long arms are cuffed together and then cuffed to a guard’s arm. Some fans described the photos as “heartbreaking.” Ms. Griner was caught on Feb. 17 in an airport close to Moscow when the security found hashish oil inside her luggage. Her arrest is seen as a punishment from Russia for American support for Ukraine in the war.
There were only a handful of photos published after her arrest. One of them was taken by an Associated Press photographer, showing Ms. Griner leaving courtroom. She was handcuffed and her face was not visible. People are wondering how she is doing.
Her wife, Cherelle Griner has not been able to talk to Ms. Griner since the arrest. They communicated through letters only. In a recent radio interview with the Rev. Al Sharpton, she says, “ I won’t let them break me”.
