Gorgosaurus at an auction

A Gorgosaurus skeleton is going to be sold at an auction and is expected to earn about five to eight million dollars.

It will take place at Sotheby’s auction house.

The Gorgosarurus was a dinosaur that roamed the earth about 77 million years ago. A usual adult weighed about two tons, very close to the weight of a T-Rex.

Paleontologists say it was fiercer and faster than the T-Rex, with a stronger bite. The Gorgosaurus had about 42,000 newtons worth of force in its bite. The T-Rex only had 35,000 newtons.

The amazing Gorgosaurus skeleton was found in the Judith River Formation near Havre, Montana, in 2018.

This is the first time that Sotheby’s has sold a full dinosaur skeleton since they sold Sue the T-Rex in 1997, for $US8.36 million.

“All of the other specimens of Gorgosaurus that have been found are in museums,” said Sotheby’s head of science and popular culture, Cassandra Hatton. “This is the only one that you can actually buy, so it’s an exciting moment, both for private collectors and institutions.”

The Gorgosarus will most likely be a bargain, compared to a T-Rex, named Stan, who will also be up for sale soon. But the T-rex’s owner is very private, and scientists are afraid that they won’t be able to study it.

But it was said that the T-Rex will be displayed as the star attraction in the new museum of natural history opening in the United Arab Emirates in 2025.
