On June 9th 2022, the US House of Representatives held a hearing for the deadly 2021 attack at the US Capitol. The hearing was for the results from a year-long investigation.

On January 6, the US congress counted off the Electoral College votes. Trump didn’t believe that he lost the election. Because of this, Trump’s supporters broke into the US Capitol building. After the attack, several died and dozens were injured.

The committee working to uncover the truth of the attack is led by Democrat Bennie Thompson, of Mississippi and Republican Representative Liz Cheney, of Wyoming. Although many Republican representatives have criticized Liz Cheney’s involvement in the investigation, she ignored them to fight for what she believed was right.

This event occurred more than one year ago and many people have already forgotten what happened that day. The committee members are very concerned that unless Americans learn from what happened on January 6, something similar could happen again.

The group spent a tremendous amount of time, going through videos, documents and recorded interviews, trying to find what really had happened. The committee presented the evidence in the hearing. Those evidences how deadly the attack on the Capitol was. According to News for Kids.net, “Police officers who survived the attack described it as being like a war zone.”

Upon reviewing these sources, the committee found that Mr. Trump made no efforts to pause the attack on the Capitol for hours, even though many people encouraged him to do so. They also discovered two groups, which supported Mr. Trump’s stance, planned the attack in advance.

But instead of acknowledging the truth, he encouraged his supporters that the results were false.

Ms. Cheney says there will be a future hearing. The topics of the future hearings include how Trumps tried to change the election results, how the incidents were arranged in advance, and how he tried to get Mr. Pence to change the results.
