Man Disguised as Old Lady Detained After Throwing Cake at the Mona Lisa

A man in a wig disguised as an old woman in a wheelchair was caught throwing a piece of cake at the Mona Lisa. The 36-year-old was detained and brought to a psychiatric unit, according to Associated Press.

A video on social media shows the security guards escorting him to the exit. The man says, “Think of the Earth! There are people who are destroying the Earth! Think about it. Artists tell you: think of the Earth. That’s why I did this.”

Another social media video shows somebody cleaning the cake off the protecting glass covering the Mona Lisa.

The original Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo da Vinci around 1503-1519. This oil painting is in the Louvre’s largest room.

This incident wasn’t the first time the Mona Lisa got into trouble. The original protective glass was put up because of an acid attack in 1950.

In 1911, the Mona Lisa vanished from the museum. For more than two years no one knew where it was in the whole world until someone decided to sell the painting to an art dealer who informed security.
