Your brain during a tennis match

By: Andrew Cheng

In every tennis player’s brain, there is always a little guy being controlled by two other characters: an angel and a demon.

One day when a player starts a tournament, the stories between those three characters begin.

The little guys asked the Angel and the Demon, “Oh my god, another tournament is going to start in a bit; I don’t even know what will happen. What should I do?”

The Angel responded, “Well, we should not panic; it is not a big deal if you didn’t do well, just focus on yourself and enjoy the game. “

The Demon responded to the Angel, “Enjoy? Are you serious? Look at those people around you. They are not muscular and do not hit as hard. How can you lose to those people? It will be a shame if you fail to do any of them.

As the game started, the opponent returned all the shots despite his lack of skill and caused the opposing player to become frustrated and make mistakes.

The little guy thought, “I can’t even hit a single shot in; this game is completely messed up. I can’t do anything else besides hitting the ball lightly, but the opponent will still finish the point easily.”

On his one shoulder, he heard the Demon say, “You’re a failure! How can you play this bad? Even a 1-year-old baby can beat you!”

Yet, on the other shoulder, he heard the Angel vouch for him. The Angel encouraged him,” Don’t listen to that awful guy; just forget about the past point and focus on the next shot.”

The Demon yelled at the angel, “How can he even score a single point like this?”

After getting blamed by the Demon so much, the little guy wasn’t in a suitable mode; he lost his confidence and the game at last.

Overall, this story shows how having negative feelings will genuinely overshadow the positivity of a tennis player and finally cause a significant impact on their performance. The critical point of the game is to stay positive in any situation.
