Allianz Arena, Munich, June 14 – Hope surged among Scotland fans on Friday evening as they gathered for the opening match of the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship. Scotland faced Germany in the match, which ended in disappointment for Scotland with a 5-1 defeat.

Germany dominated the game from the start
Germany was ready at the start, with Florian Wirtz scoring within the first ten minutes of the match. Ten minutes later, Tamal Musiala’s goal doubled the lead, making the score 2-0. Before the end of the first half, Ryan Porteous was charged with “serious rough play” for his two-footed tackle on a Germany player which made him sent off the pitch. A penalty was awarded, and Kai Havertz took the chance to score the third goal.

Scotland’s one and only goal
In the 67th minute, Niclas Fullkrug brought the score up for Germany to 4-0. Scotland’s Scott Mckenha’s free kick shot bounced off the head of Germany’s Antonio Rudiger and landed in the goal at the 87th minute, followed by the cheering of the Scotland fans.

The Victory
After another goal from Germany, the match ended at 5-1. “Germany completed their biggest ever European Championship win. It’s Scotland’s worst ever defeat as well,” remarked the broadcaster from Fox Soccer. “It’s the first time Germany has ever scored five in a Euro’s match!”

Looking ahead, Scotland’s next game is with Switzerland. Meanwhile, Germany will face Hungary on the same day in Stuttgart
