Joe Biden and Donald Trump are set to face off in a debate. President Biden needs to show the chaos during Trump’s presidency. While, Trump will argue that America has become more expensive, weaker, and less safe because of Biden.

The debate is risky for the both of them. Their dislike for each other could lead to tensions. Any mistakes they make could greatly impact the voters because the next debate is in September.

“This is a big turning point,” said Karl Rove, a leading Republican strategist who guided George W. Bush’s two successful presidential runs. (New York Times) “Can Biden show he’s up to the job? And can Trump stay focused enough to convince people he’s the better choice?”

Biden is preparing with his team at Camp David, while Trump has more policy discussions than he did in 2020. Trump’s advisors want him to focus on Biden’s weak points like inflation and immigration.

Biden’s team sees the debate as a chance to appeal to a wide range of voters. They are also ready for Trump to be more disciplined than in the first 2020 debate.

“This debate lets us show how dangerous Trump is,” said Rob Flaherty, a deputy campaign manager for Mr. Biden.

Trump will likely ask questions about his promise to pardon those involved in the January 6 Capitol attack. He plans to explain that he will handle these cases individually.

This debate is the first time Biden and Trump will face each other since October 2020. Since then, the country has dealt with a pandemic, economic troubles, and political changes.

Representative James Clyburn said the debate could be very important for Biden’s campaign. “This debate could be crucial for keeping our momentum going,” he said.
