Claudia Sheinbaum, a Jewish scientist and politician, has been elected as the first female president of Mexico in a historical landslide win, with almost 60% of the country voting for her. She will start her term and replace the former Mexican president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, on October 1st.

Before running for president, Claudia Sheinbaum was the mayor of Mexican City, so she has experience in politics. She had also spent many years studying in the lab and had become a professional in the environment.

The fact that the two main candidates were women left little doubt that Mexico would make history when the president was elected. Claudia Sheinbaum will also be the first person with a Jewish background to lead Mexico.

Claudia won from 58% to 60% of the votes, winning by unimaginable numbers. Her six year term as a president will start on October 1st, and she hopes to achieve many things and improve Mexico for all the Mexican residents.

In her victory speech, she told the excited crowd, “For the first time in the 200 years of the [Mexican] Republic, I will become the first woman president of Mexico.” It was a meaningful moment for all women to finally have a female president elected to top office as a fair win.

However, the election of the first ever female president of Mexico has not only been met with cheers and new hopes, but also unhappiness and sometimes violence. Claudia hopes to prevent more violence from happening in Mexico by working hard on improving her country.

As the first ever female president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, a Jewish scientist in climate, will work hard in her six year term to gather the support and trust from the country of Mexico.
