The International Paralympic Committee has announced that paraclimbing will be included in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA. Since paraclimbing will now feature at the international tournament, LA28 Paralympic Games will now feature 23 different sports. This move follows climbing from the Tokyo Games in 2020. The climbing sport from 2020 Olympics will become para in the 2028 Olympics
Paraclimbing, which is known for speed, will be exciting to watch in the Paralympic Games. IPC President Andrew Parsons said, “You only have to see the sport’s impact on the Olympic Games programme to understand this.” To add a new sport to the Paralympic Games, the organizing committee of approves or rejects the proposals for new sports. For the LA28 Games, the organizing committee had to choose between Paraclimbing and Parasurfing, which were both new. Para-climbing was selected, making it the fifth new sport added to the Paralympics.
Marco Scolaris, President of the International Federation of Sport Climbing, was happy for IPC and the LA28 organizing committee support. He said that by including Para-climbing, they have allowed Paraclimbing athletes to show their skills globally. “All of our Para athletes do this every day, and now they can do it on the world stage for all to see at the Paralympic Games,” Scolaris said.
The inclusion of Para-climbing in the LA28 Paralympic Games shows that the International Paralympic Committee wants to expand the amount of sports in the Olympics……
