After landing in Texas as a Category 1 hurricane, Beryl knocked out power to over two million customers.

There is still and expected storm surge, inward flowing and hazards. Outages are mostly in the Houston area and costal counties. Most people that lost power are receiving it from Center Point Energy. At 10:27 a.m, PowerOutage.us reported that more that 1.9 out of CenterPoint’s 2.6 million Texas customers had lost power. “As soon as safe to do so, you’ll see our crews headed out to start assessing damage and developing restoration plans,” CenterPoint said on social media platform X. Two people died and one other person was injured by crashing trees from Hurricane Beryl. Harris County Sheriff Gonzales said that the deceased person was a 54-year-old man who was “sitting in a house with family, riding out the storm.” A 74-year-old woman also died in the neighborhood of Rustic Canyon Trail.

Some river flooding could occur on July 8 and there could be up to 15 inches of rain. A tornado warning was issued at 5:11 a.m July 8 and meanwhile, Beryl’s winds were up to 90 miles per hour. A positive factor is that Beryl is a compact storm, meaning the heaviest rain will fall in just a narrow area. It will affect a big part of Houston but nowhere else. While traveling to Houston, the storm is likely to weaken significantly.
