It was a close match when Spain played England. After a month of playing, Spain took the the cup home.
After nobody scored in the first half, Nico Williams got an assist from the 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, who scored for Spain, making the score 1-0. But England did not give up. Cole Palmer scored a goal from outside the box and playing into the bottom corner of the goal to tie the game to 1-1. But in the 86th minute, Spain scored again, winning the trophy and extending England’s 58th year without a major tournament win.
Even though Harry Kane didn’t play his best, he got a share of the Euro 2024 Golden Boot by scoring 3 goals.
He told the BBC the loss was “as painful as it could be,” adding: “I think we did really well to get back into the game and get back to 1-1, and then we couldn’t quite use that momentum to push on.” (BBC,2024)
The England manager Garth Southgate said that they didn’t keep possession of the ball well enough. He also said that Spain was the best team in the Euros and deserves to win. King Charles has written to Southgate telling them to hold their heads high.
