After a month of football excitement, England’s journey in Euro 2024 has come to an end.
Last night, at Berlin’s Olympiastadion, England faced Spain in the tournament’s final match. The game began quietly, with a scoreless first half. However, early in the second half, Nico Williams of Spain scored the opening goal.

England didn’t give up. Substitute Cole Palmer sparked hope with a stunning long-range shot that found the bottom corner of Spain’s goal, bringing England level.

But Spain managed to score again in the 86th minute, sealing their victory and extending England’s drought without a major tournament win to 58 years.

Despite challenges throughout the tournament, England’s captain Harry Kane earned recognition, sharing the Euro 2024 Golden Boot with three goals. Reflecting on the loss, Kane described it as deeply disappointing, emphasizing the team’s effort to recover from setbacks.

England’s manager Gareth Southgate acknowledged that the team lacked possession control in the final game. He credited Spain as the tournament’s strongest team, deserving winners.

Looking ahead, questions arise about Southgate’s future as England’s manager, despite his significant progress with the team over eight years.

Prince Charles conveyed a message of pride to Southgate and the team for reaching the final, expressing confidence in England’s future successes. Prince William, also present at the match with his son Prince George, echoed a sentiment of pride and encouragement for the team’s efforts.

England will now shift focus to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
