Kamala Harris’ Marketing Strategy

By: Sammy Wang

With President Biden announcing Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement for the 2024 democratic party representative, Harris’ HQ team is working hard on gaining more supporters across various platforms. Most notably, on TikTok.

A viral video posted on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, garnering 42.8 million views and 5.7 million likes, brought outstanding attention to her. The attention she’s receiving is due equally to the fact that she’s replaced Biden and the way her marketing team.

The viral video is a slideshow of Harris and fellow candidate Trump, to the lyrics of Feminiomenon, by rising American singer and songwriter Chappell Roan. This video received a lot of positive comments about Kamala running for president.

Another viral video of Harris is an edit of her to the lyrics of the song, Brat by Charly xcx. The video starts with her iconic line, “And you think you fell out of a coconut tree?”

This line is popular among Harris supporters; Many videos about Harris have comments saying something along the lines of, “Project Coconut,” to show their support for her.

One Tiktoker by the username name of meatball, said they were going to vote for Harris because of her team’s marketing tactics.

“I hate how I can feel the propaganda of Kamala is working on me…like I’m still going to vote for her, but I don’t like feeling like I want to vote for her,” said meatball in a video.

Commenters on meatball’s video said that the reason may be because it feels like there is hope again. This is because Kamala is a younger candidate who is attempting to understand the younger generation, so people feel they have a say on who they want to vote for.
