On Friday, July 19, four trains were delayed because of one hard-shelled reptile. A turtle, named Solomon, escaped his owner’s garden to go on its own adventure.

He was caught roaming around on the tracks near Ascot in Berkshire as he crawled along the rail towards Bagshot.

Engineers picked the tortoise up and put it on the next passing train, with arrangements to drop it off at a vet in Staines.

According to reports, SWR personnel and Network Rail staff were unexpectedly tasked with ensuring the safety of Solomon, who had somehow found its way onto the railway platform.

Fortunately, despite the tortoise’s misadventure, SWR confirmed that Solomon emerged from the ordeal unharmed. Later that evening, Solomon’s relieved owner arrived at the station to collect their adventurous pet. The incident concluded with services returning to normal by approximately 7 pm.

Reflecting on the incident, a spokesperson from Network Rail emphasized the importance of pet safety, reminding the public of the inherent dangers posed by railway tracks. They urged pet owners and local residents to secure fencing adequately to prevent similar incidents in the future.

While Solomon’s escapade may have caused temporary disruption, the story ultimately ended on a positive note, serving as a gentle reminder to keep a watchful eye on our beloved animal companions.
