The British divers won 2nd during the Olympics, with a total of 463.44 points. They were beaten by the Chinese duo, Lion Junjie and Yang Hao.
Diving has multiple forms. It ranges from different heights, and as each round progresses, the harder the tricks must be. China is currently the best at diving with 50 medals total, beating USA.
Tom Daley is the first ever British diver to compete in 5 Olympic Games; he carried the flag alongside Helen Glover in this year’s ceremony. He has won 1 gold, 3 bronze, and finally, 1 silver.
Although Daley was deciding to retire after the Tokyo Games in 2021, he was persuaded by his 6-year-old son to come out of retirement, so the boy could see him dive at an Olympic game. “Doing it in front of my son who asked me to come back is so special. I now have one of every colour, I’ve completed the set.”, said Daley (BBC,2024)
Daley’s partner, Noah Williams, watched a 14-year-old Daley compete in the 2008 Olympics. Daley also made history in 2008 by being the youngest player in British History to compete in the Olympics in over 50 years. He was able to achieve his dream and win a medal, too. Noah Williams got to be with his idol and win a shiny silver medal during his first ever Olympics.
