Tom Daley Won His Fifth Olympic Medal

By: Isabella Liu

British diver Tom Daley won his fifth Olympic medal with Noah Williams as his partner on July 29, 2024 in Paris. They won Silver in the men’s synchronized diving event after the Chinese team, Lian Jungjie and Yang Hao, carried gold.

Previously, [what is his age] Daley has won one gold and three bronze medals. He appeared to be retiring after the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, after which he didn’t compete for two years. He stated that his oldest son Robbie, now six, convinced him to come out of retirement when he said that he wanted to see his ‘Papa’ dive at an Olympics. In an interview, he told the press, “When we visited the United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum, …I said I missed diving and I missed the Olympics. And Robbie was like, ‘I want to see you dive at the Olympics’. And that was that.”
[Okay, what happened between his son convinced him to return and his winning Silver? Do some research. You need to connect this paragraph and the next]

Daley had his first Olympic game at the astonishingly young age of fourteen in Beijing for the 2008. Though he didn’t win any medals, it was clear that he had a long Olympic career in front of him because of his performance. He competed again in 2012, where he won his first Olympic medal (bronze) in London in the Men’s 10-meter platform diving event. He also earned fourth place in the Men’s synchronized 10-meter dive. In 2016 he won his second bronze medal in the synchronized 10-meter dive with Daniel Goodfellow in Rio de Janeiro. In 2021, he won both bronze in the Men’s 10-meter platform dive and gold in the synchronized 10-meter dive with Matty Lee.

Winning a medal in Olympics is astonishing. Winning his fifth Olympic Medal is certainly exceptional. Congratulations to Tom Daley.
