Ai Generated Deep Fakes

By: Elena Luo

As AI technology grows more advanced so do AI deep fakes. The better the deep fakes get, the harder it is to spot an AI picture from an actual picture. The more this continues the more dubious information will be passed around as facts.

There are many ways to spot an AI generated picture. One of the ways is by paying attention to little details. In a generated picture of Ryan Renold the words on his shirt were gibberish. His fingers were also weirdly shaped. Often little details like this are missed by AI and are a big give away. Take the deep fake picture of Ariana Grande for example. At first glance, you might think it is real. However, the 8 perfect flamingoes in the background should trigger suspicion. Ariana’s makeup and skin is another perfect detail. Also, AI generated pictures tend to be too perfect and include skin that is too smooth, or too fantastical backgrounds.

Reverse image searching is another way to tell if an image is natural or not. This can be very helpful when attempting to find out if a photograph is AI or real, as it will show where else on the internet the photo is found. Reverse image searches will show fewer results for AI photographs because they are typically found in fewer locations than actual ones. By using hashtags or the name of the source, a reverse search can also help you find the original source of the image, which may help you identify it as an AI creation. It’s also important to consider whether the image is from a reliable website.

In the future, there will be a lot more AI deep fakes. Knowing these small tactics will help you to see through the lies.
