Iron Man returns to Marvel (kind of)

By: Wesley Zhao

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, we all know that Iron Man dies. Well, we probably never expected Robert Downey Jr. to be back. He is now playing Doctor Doom, a villain from the Fantastic Four comics.

Downey Jr. was born on April 4,1965, and when he was 5 years old, he made his first acting debut with his dad for the movie Sr. From 2013 to 2015, he was listed in Forbes as Hollywood’s highest paid actor. He has grossed over 14 billion dollars worldwide and in 2008, he was named as one of the top 100 most influential actors.

Robert Downey Jr. began his journey with Marvel back in the 2008 movie, Iron Man, and went on to portray Tony Stark until Iron Man died in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. He died by snapping his fingers while having all the infinity stones to defeat Thanos and his army.

Speaking to the Comic-Con crowd, Downey Jr said: “New mask. Same task. What’d I tell you? I like playing complicated characters.”

He is Doctor Doom, the main enemy from Fantastic Four. There is going to be a movie with him scheduled to premiere in July of 2025.

Besides the new Fantastic 4 movie, there will also be a Thunderbolts movie for superhero fans starring Florence Pugh, which will release in May 2025.

In a vote, 55.5% of Marvel fans are unhappy with Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom. They think it’s a joke and that the character is wasted on him.
