The Missing Cookies

By; Cynthia Yu

On a Sunday morning Chloe had just baked five chocolate chip cookies and decided to share them with everyone. She put the cookies on the table and went to the bathroom. But after she came back there were only three cookies on the plate. She looked everywhere on the table but couldn’t find it and realized someone must have eaten them.

So, she immediately called everyone to the kitchen and asked what they were doing in the past five minutes. Her husband said he was working in his office. The youngest daughter Sally said she was watching TV. The oldest daughter Abby said she did not eat the cookies, and it must have been her younger brother Jackson. Jackson said he was playing video games in his room.

Chloe thought for a few seconds, and then told everyone that they could go back to what they were doing. According to what everyone said, Chloe knew it couldn’t have been her husband because she knew he had to write an article for his company. It couldn’t have been the youngest daughter or Jackson because they probably didn’t know that she made cookies if they were upstairs. So, it was Abby. She did call them to the kitchen indeed, but she never told them anything about the cookies being stolen.

Chloe went to find Abby but found her walking out of the house instead. She followed her to the other side of the street, where there was a poor mother and son. She saw Abby giving them the two chocolate chip cookies. Abby only stole the cookies to give them to other people in need. As soon as Chloe saw this scene, she smiled and left.
