Hunger Games Movie Review

By: Shawn  Wang

The Hunger Games has one of the best storylines I’ve seen in a movie. This film came out on March 23, 2012, starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mallark. As a punishment for a past rebellion to the capital, one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected at random (the “Reaping”) to participate in the annual Hunger Games. The participants (or “tributes”) must fight to the death in an arena; the one survivor is rewarded with fame and wealth.

For the tributes from District 12, it was supposed to be Prim Everdeen, Katniss’ sister, and Peeta Mallark. However, Katniss couldn’t stand the thought of her sister going to fight in the games, so she volunteered for her.

I think this is very brave of her to do. This moment shows how much she cares for her sister and the amount of courage it took to do this. But at least Katniss knows how to hunt. She can easily work a bow and arrow. On the other hand, her sister Prim has no survival knowledge whatsoever. So, I think she made the right decision to go for her sister.

The Hunger Games is an intense action-packed movie. There are some parts that make you scared and nervous, while others make you feel relieved and happy. It truly takes you on a whole trip. The whole series is so addicting and emotional that it sucks you into this world where literally all you can think about is the characters. The main character, Katniss Everdeen, is such a powerful and perfect character. She really brings the whole movie together. I 100% recommend the Hunger Games because it’s so suspenseful, dramatic, and super entertaining.
