From Hero to Villain: Robert Downey Junior Returns to the MCU

By: Jackson Liu

Robert Downey Junior, 59, is famous for playing the role of Iron Man for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) from 2009 to 2019 for the Avengers movies and Iron Man movies. The character died in 2019 in Avengers: Endgame. After a long period of not acting for the MCU, Downey Jr. will continue to act for the MCU in 2025 and 2026 for the movie Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday, but this time as a villain.

After Iron Man’s Death in Avengers: Endgame, his actor (Robert Downey Junior) will be back to acting, but this time as the antagonist for 2 movies. Another movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, also will have Robert Downey Junior as an actor. The Fantastic 4 made its way into theaters first in July, 2005, then in 2007, 2015 and will be in theaters by 2025. Downey Jr. will act as the fantastic 4’s main enemy: Dr. Doom, an evil guy who aims to take over the world. Dr. Doom can time travel, and after seeing all the terrible futures for earth, he decided to control everything in order to stop them. Not so bad after all, right?

The 2024 San Diego Comic-Con in July is an event where fans can learn more about upcoming Marvel movies. The event had a bunch of people dressed as Dr. Doom, and when one of them took off his mask to reveal Robert Downey Junior, the crowd went crazy.
