Plane Crash In Brazil Kills 62 People

In Vocpass Flight 2283, with 58 passengers and 4 crew members on Saturday, Aug 10, the plane spiraled and crashed in the residential area of Vinhedo, Brazil. Experts have yet to confirm the reason for the plane’s crash, but many theories have arisen.

The videos captured prior to the plane’s fall showed the aircraft spinning uncontrollably, convincing aviation experts that the plane had indeed stalled. There is still no solid explanation of how the plane stalled, but some ideas suggest it could’ve been ice on the wings, engine failure, malfunction in the plane’s system, or distracted pilots.

According to the NYT, a severe ice warning was issued in the area where the plane crashed. Although this claim is one of the largest, experts say that if there had been ice piling up, the pilots would’ve seen it. And, even if the ice protection system malfunctioned, the pilots would have lowered the plane’s altitude so the lower and warmer temperature would’ve melted off the ice.

John Hansman, director of astronautics and aeronautics at MIT, said that after evaluating footage shared on social media of the plane crash, the weather was an unlikely factor.

Flight 2283 took off before noon and flew at 17,000 ft until 1:21 pm, when it suddenly dropped 250 ft, climbed back up 400 feet, and lost around 2,000 ft in 24 seconds. Around a minute later, it crashed from 17,000 ft through multiple houses. No one was killed in the residential area. Some witnesses say the plane fell onto an elderly couple’s house in its descent before it crashed.
