Olympic Diver Tom Daley Retires from Diving

Tom Daley is a highly respected team Great Britain competitive diver that first started diving at 14 years old in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He has since competed in 4 olympics and is now aged 30. He has competed for more than 15 years, and has 5 Olympic medals, with a gold one from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. he first said he was going to resign during an interview with British Vogue. He then confirmed his resignation from competitive diving after his last dive in the 2024 Paris Olympics for BBC news on Monday, August 12th. He’s retiring because he wants to spend more time with his family and friends.

During his last dive in the 2024 summer olympics, Daley reported feeling emotional on the springboard, because it’s his very last competitive dive. He and his partner, Noah Williams, won a silver medal in the men’s 10 meter synchronized diving event, which is his fifth medal in competitive diving. The thing that kept him going was seeing his family and friends in the stands.

Daley also has a liking for crocheting. Videos of him crocheting in the stands while waiting for a match to start has gone viral. He has crocheted many things, such as a Paris Olympic Games themed sweater. He posted his creations on social media, and inspired many people to try out crocheting themselves. Because of him, many bored people in the world have a new hobby.

During his 15 years of competitive diving, Tom Daley has won 5 medals and been to multiple Olympics. He is admired and honored in Great Britain. He has inspired many young people to try out crocheting for themselves through his social media posts.
