Little Berry and Her Friend

By: Lian Zhu

Once there was a strawberry named Little Berry. Berry lived in the Magic Garden full of magic vegetables. Berry knew the carrots, potatoes, beets, kale, cucumbers, and definitely the other strawberry plants too.

One day, Berry decided to go out and make new friends. That night, Berry got packed up and slept early. She set the alarm for 6:00 A.M. and set off in the morning.

On the journey, Berry saw ants in a line, mushrooms in a circle, and trees of all kinds. She was very happy. One day, when Berry was walking in the forest, she felt something approaching her. When she turned around, she found big thick vines closing in on her! She was suddenly surrounded by vine.

Luckily, Berry remembered the tools she packed. She took out a pair of scissors and cut an exit through the vines. Berry walked out of the vines. She took a look around, and found the vines were directly under a big tree branch. The thick tree branch acted as a roof. Out of nowhere, a fire started. Berry tried to blow it out, but the fire only got bigger! She finally got water and put it out. Then she realized that this could be a shelter for the night! She started to walk inside and then… Snap! The vine house was a trap! She climbed out and ran away.

Berry continued the journey and then she bumped into a beehive. She ran away from the bees and hid in a bush. After a while, she came upon the bush. The bush rustled and shook. Then a flower came out. Berry started to talk to the flower — she has a cute name: Red.

Berry told Red about her experience in the vine house. Red laughed, and said she actually made the vine house from contraptions! “Looks like you walked on the invisible X, Berry!” Red explained that the house was not a trap. Berry asked, “then why did you put a pit in it?” Red replied, “I added traps so that I can stay safe.” Berry chuckled. They became good friends and started to head back to the Magic Garden. In the Garden, Berry and Red lived together, peacefully and happily, with no angry bees!
