Prompt: Write about a time when you had a house guest but didn’t enjoy their company.

Everyone with a big family knows the dread of facing your younger relatives. They’ll ask you if you have games on your phone, tease you, and make sure you never forget the mistakes you make in front of them. Especially during holidays such as Thanksgiving or Christmas, we all dread these interactions. For me, it was during Thanksgiving dinner.

Our family didn’t do anything very special; we just invited my cousin, who was conveniently in my area, and some family friends. One of my mom’s friends had brought her twin daughters, who honestly aren’t my favorite people in the world. The word I would use to describe them is immature, as they had no sense of elbow room and such. I am incredibly grateful for the fact that they were engrossed in the Wii for the remainder of the evening.

However, when I tried to make a sneaky escape on the side to go draw on my own, they followed me the whole way to my room. They even picked up things scattered on my drawer and started asking me the weirdest questions about my room. I’ll admit, I used to do that as a young child. The problem with them was that they were not young children. They were the same age as me! Yet they still had that same interest in unicorns and cats with rainbows. I’m not saying that liking unicorns and rainbows is wrong, but it just shows how much our viewpoints differ.

Eventually, I resorted to going to the restroom in an attempt get out of the room, but guess what? They followed me there again! They kept knocking on the door and asking what was in the room and wouldn’t go away until I told them I was going to the restroom. By then, I was feeling tired and grumpy. So as a last-ditch attempt, I gave them a new game to play on the Wii, and I was able to run off to my room.
