This week, the Maui wildfires in Hawaii lead to the deaths of 93 people, and hundreds still missing. Unfortunately, the firefighters have still not finished extinguishing the fire. Governor John Green believes the death toll will still rise a lot.
The wildfire has surpassed the 2018 California campfire incident which left 85 dead and ruined the town of Paradise. Governor John Green has called it “the worst natural disaster Hawaii has ever faced”.
Many people are also angry at the government’s response to the wildfires, and have raised questions for the distribution of aid in the days since.
The searching teams were put to work immediately after the wildfire first started. The teams have started marking ruins with bright orange letters meaning that they searched already. They also hired dogs to sniff the remains of people in already distinguished areas.
Although Hawaii has alarms for natural disasters that are tested monthly, it didn’t sound before the people had to run for their lives. The disaster has also caused massive power outages which is a problem for vacationers that need to connect with their frantic families.
Meanwhile, the officials have already secured 1,000 hotel rooms for people who lost their homes during the wildfire. More than 1,400 people were taken to emergency shelters.
The cause of this fire is still unknown, but experts can say that after the fire started, there were strong winds after which could’ve been the reason that the fire was so huge.
