Very exciting news was just announced for Canadian Swifties. On August 3rd, Taylor Swift announced that, for the first time in six years, she will be traveling to Canada in November 2024.
Many Canadian Swifties, such as eleven-year-old Archana, were very shocked by this news and naturally decided to purchase the tickets immediately. Swift has six shows planned at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. This was lucky for people like Archana who live just outside Toronto. But for others, who live further away from Toronto, this location proves pricey as they must spend extra money on a plane ticket.
With the high demand of concert tickets, however, even Archana might not be able to go. Archana has listened and looked up to Swift since she was an infant, and loves that “a lot of her songs talk about empowerment and how she faced challenges and came out strong”(CBC).
Like Archana, thirteen-year-old Eleanor Reid admires Swift because of her powerful lyrics. She argues that Taylor’s lyrics are the cause of her immense popularity. Eleanor has been a Swiftie since she was a toddler, memorizing Taylor’s Red album at the age of three.
When Taylor first announced her international Eras tour dates, Eleanor and Archana, along with many other Swifties, were saddened at the news that Taylor wasn’t coming to Canada. Even Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to Twitter pleading to Taylor saying, “It’s me, hi. I know places in Canada would love to have you. So, don’t make it another cruel summer. We hope to see you soon”(CBC).
This pleading must have worked, as she set six dates for Canada. Even so, Eleanor will not be attending the concert since she cannot spend extra money for the plane ride. Eleanor is fine with not being at the Taylor concert. She is just happy Taylor will be in Canada. She added, “One thing that’d be really cool is if Taylor wrote a book to tell us about the eras of her life for those who can’t see those eras in person”(CBC).
