Imagine having a casual day at Long Beach, drinking Coca Cola, and chatting with your best friend. Then, suddenly, fire comes out of nowhere and engulfs the boat in flames.
That was exactly what happened to two people at Long Beach last week. Two women in their 60s were killed and three injured when fire erupted on a 35 foot power boat, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.
According to officials, the accident happened near a fuel dock in Alamitos Bay. The three injured were also in their 60s; they were reported to be one woman and two men.
The firefighters received the alarm for the blaze at 5:17 p.m. They quickly got ready and took their safety rescue boats to the scene. Bystanders were trying to help extinguish the flames.
Firefighters took out most of the fire with water cannons, but they had to call in county firefighting to help them make sure that the fire did not spread to other boats. The specific cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire caused a huge cloud of black smoke to rise above the sky.
There was lots of chaos, and sadly, two passengers lost their lives, and three are in the hospital right now.
