Riders Rescued From a 205 Foot Drop Roller Coaster

By: Jonathan Shen

Riders aboard a rollercoaster at Cedar point had to be rescued due to mechanical issues.

This 34-year-old record-breaking roller coaster had suddenly stopped at the top of a 205 foot drop, forcing about a dozen people to be evacuated from the roller coaster, said local media reports and incidents shared on social media. Nobody was injured.

A spokesperson at the amusement park has said that the incident was a, “standard ride stoppage” caused by the “check engine light.” The steel-framed ride, however, could not immediately restart.

Some photos posted on social media showed people walking down the stairs of the rollercoaster.

Ever since 1989, Cedar Point didn’t just beat the Guinness world record once, it beated it twice! Cedar Point now calls itself the roller coaster capital of the world!

The ride has many hills, steep slopes, turns, twists, tunnels, and a “pretzel turnaround” which is basically a path where the roller coaster turns in a bunch of pretzel shapes. The park said it was a “signature” engineering feat.

A report from the Akron Beacon Journal said that the Magnus XL-200 hasn’t been the only coaster to stop due to technical error recently, the Wild Mouse coaster also stopped unexpectedly twice in the preview phase of May. No passengers, again, were injured in the incident.

Tony Clark, the Director of Communications, said on Facebook that, “Our team is hard at work, creating a new and reimagined ride experience.”
