In a surprising turn of events, Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are inching closer to an exhibition cage match, following a social media challenge. While obstacles remain, the potential clash between these tech billionaires has captured the world’s attention. Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), is leading the negotiations, with discussions focusing on charity involvement.
The fight first appeared to be a social media stunt but Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, accompanied by their advisers, are actively pursuing the possibility of a physical showdown, which has gained traction. White and the tech moguls have been talking nightly to organize the event. While no guarantees have been made, there is a growing consensus on the framework of the match, including its exhibition nature and the involvement of a charitable component.
The fight has to be held outside the jurisdiction and rights deals of the official UFC. However, White would still contribute to the event’s production. Las Vegas has been chosen as the location, pending approval from the Nevada Athletic Commission. Elon Musk stirred excitement among UFC enthusiasts when he suggested hosting the match at the iconic Roman Colosseum.
While Zuckerberg’s friends and advisers generally support the idea of the match, some critics believe it could be a distraction from more valuable pursuits of his time.
According to the New York Times, “Mr. Zuckerberg started training on a lark mostly in his garage in 2021, where he built what he called a “mini academy” with a circle of friends who spar with him.
”Zuckerberg’s growing involvement in the world of mixed martial arts, particularly Brazilian jujitsu, adds an intriguing element to the potential match. With a personal journey dedicated to training and a passion for the sport, Zuckerberg has surrounded himself with martial arts experts and even participated in public tournaments.
In contrast, Elon Musk’s approach appears less disciplined, with a reported aversion to regular workouts. Despite their physical differences, the intensity surrounding the matchup promises to make it the most significant event in combat sports history.
